Dining alfresco is one of Summer's simple pleasures. I love having dinner outside on the patio and breakfast on the porch is heavenly but there is something magical about a picnic. Bringing everything you need for a meal to a remote, beautiful spot and then setting it up and enjoying it is the stuff memories are made of. It can be as simple as sandwiches, chips and lemonade on a beach blanket or as elegant as a table set up in a meadow with fine china and crystal and catered food. Either way, is there anything more romantic than a picnic with someone you love?
Independence Day is just around the corner so if you haven't had a picnic in awhile, plan one as part of your weekend festivities. Grab a basket, some easy delicious portable food and find a beautiful spot near a lake, on the beach or in the country and surprise a few friends or your spouse.
I'm lucky to live just a golf cart ride away from the beach, so that's where I would have my picnic. And this is exactly how I would want my picnic party to look:
A table on the sand made of wooden pallets with an old door laid on top, floor pillows, simple garden flowers and lots of candles set the celebratory mood.
Part of the fun of a picnic is having a wide variety of things to nibble on. This picnic featured originally on the StyleMePretty blog, has a great menu which I might steal. Oysters on the half shell, sushi grade tuna, rustic pizzas, grilled veggies, crusty French bread along with cheeses and charcuterie encourage guests to nibble and linger for hours.
Asking guests to bring their own beverages ensures that they have what they like and also makes things easier on you. When you are carrying everything, it's smart to share the load!
And of course there HAS to be dessert! These tiny pies are fun and chocolate chip cookies and brownies should be part of every picnic, shouldn't they?
I can't believe it's Friday already. Where did this week go?
