One of my favorite things about spring is the sound of music coming from the treetops. I love listening to the birds' little voices, each one joyfully singing its part. And, although I couldn't tell you the species nor do I own binoculars or a bird watching book, I do enjoy them immensely and want them to keep nesting in my backyard. So, perhaps installing a bird house or two would entice more of them to take up permanent residence in my backyard?
Of course, I wouldn't want just any old birdhouse. I want something special. Luckily, there are many fabulous birdhouses from which to choose. Here are some of my favorites:
Bunny Williams' new creation for Ballard Designs is a mini replica of her Greek Revival Guest House. With its clapboard siding, doric columns and classical pediment, what style savvy bird could resist? I want to live there!
Perhaps a southern plantation style house would be appropriate and attract the birds that live in my area. After all, I do live in the south:
Another option is this adorable Victorian style cottage. Love the porch, the minty color green and the cedar roof shingles.
Check out these adorable "beach huts". These must be for the birds who are into the Tiny House craze. To each his own...
I have always wanted to spend the night in a lighthouse far out at sea. Maybe there is a species of bird who shares my desire? There is this charming birdhouse that is modeled after a lighthouse on Mackinac Island in Michigan:
I love this gorgeous Victorian with Mansard roof called the Sag Harbor. Look at the balcony and the tiny bay window!
