Maybe it's seeing too many rooms with clean white walls and bare windows. Or maybe with all of the chaos and craziness swirling around us in the world, a cozy home with vibrant color, texture, pattern, draperies and art feels really appealing all of a sudden. Or maybe it's simply the fact that the days are already getting shorter, signally that fall is near.
Whatever the reason, I feel a change in the air. Here are a few things on my radar for fall:
1. Gallery Wall
I'm obsessed with gallery walls at the moment. This wall in a room by William McClure is perfectly lush in its layers. Leaning the large framed print against a large abstract painting is a gutsy move.
Another great example of the gallery wall is this dining room featured in the blog Lark & Linen.I love the combination of gilded frames with black frames.
2. Tufted Furniture
Tufted sofas in leather, velvet or mohair are perfect for snuggling into when the world outside is stormy. There is something so cmforting-ly solid about them. A classic leather chesterfield is always in style.
For some reason, no other sofa style can wear a jewel tone velvet quite like a tufted back sofa.
If you prefer something with more modern lines, you can still jump on the tufted band wagon.
3. Deep Colored Walls
Are you ready for a big change this fall? If you dare, try painting a room a deep gorgeous color. But be ready for drama. Nothing creates drama in a room faster than lushly dark walls. But don't forget to paint the trim the same color. White trim is a mood wrecker.
Put all three together and you will have one knock your socks off, feast for the eyes, cozy room. Fill it with things that are meaningful to you, great books, add a dog or two and you are ready for the shorter days and longer nights.
